Ok so i have to get this out before i burst!!!!
Something really arrested my attention a few weeks ago when the story of Michael Brown surfaced, as it did with Trayvon Martin or any other trending story involving a black man dying at the hand of someone "other than". While there is a part of me that is outraged by such an injustice, there is actually an even greater part of me compelled with more contempt and outrage of the fact that there are no marches, no protests, not even a single riot (of any significance) over the thousands of African Americans killed by gangs, other blacks, poor health practices, and even by these simple minded video challenge trends saturating Facebook, Twitter & I.G.
I strongly feel this hushed issue is screaming for a transparent conversation at the least, or else we risk seeing this pseudo-conviction come and go once or twice a year, and then what??? Well, back to business as usual is what, of course; and with it, a stifled ("change-less") people.
I swear we are better than a blinded eye to injustice anywhere, which is a threat to justice everywhere. Oh, and by the way, when I say "we", Im implying all of the culture, not just African Americans. Yes we are more intelligent than using our anger to destroy another person's property in a riot because of another trendy culture conviction that told us to be so angry that we just gatta set something on fire! (and for most, honestly really not even knowing why they're marching/upset). Sure some just want a reason to act a fool, make noise, be heard, and express anger over a deeper self inflicted failure, not realizing that anger can be used to upbuild and not tear down.
Yes we are better than a 'silence over so many lives lost at our own hands'
For them I ask where are the camera's? Where are the hashtags? Where are the marches and riots?? Where is the outrage? Where is Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson? Where are the passionate suburban kids? Where are the angry tear filled inner city kids? Hmmm..., just had to ask
? Lastly, this link i'm posting may help to put this all into perspective if you think i've gone off the deep end.lol. It is the story of a 9 year old boy fatally shot in my hometown (Chicago) at least 4 times and left to die in a backyard. The injustice here makes my heart hurt!! Makes me wanna write another Love Revolution song. He is only one of many thousands of lives taken every year that aren't getting the outcry or uproar so needed to uproot the greater force of violence within this country and around the world.
